Components replaced by the CPR-28 System Since their introduction in 1955, classic Tonewheel Hammond organs such as the B-3 and C-3 have earned a reputation for incredible durability. This reputation has resulted in a certain expectation that they will go on forever with little or no maintenance. In most areas, this expectation has proven true. One exception is in the pre-amplifier chassis. The fact is that Hammond pre-amps were built with the same type and quality components that were typically used in table radios. While few people would be surprised if their 50-year-old table radio began to have problems, they sometimes seem quite surprised when these same issues develop in their beloved Hammond. Although most pre-amp problems can be repaired by replacing the offending component, the challenge comes in trying to isolate the cause of intermittent problems, or subtle losses in performance. And of course, simply replacing the currently offending component does nothing to enhance the long term reliability of all the remaining 50-year-old electronic parts in the pre-amp. For some time, the use of our SSP-3A solid state pre-amp was the only practical solution to this challenge. The CPR-28 pre-amp restoration system now provides technicians with another method to add many years to the life of these remarkable instruments. |
